Analysis on the Inspector

When the Inspector is invited in to the Birling household, he adresses Arthur Birling as 'sir' and speaks politely. He does this because late he needs to find out what happened to Eva Smith and so the Birlings do not feel attacked very quickly. 

The inspector keeps in the gory details about Eva Smiths state at the moment for example he says 'Her state now is that she lays with her insided burnt out on a slab.' This imagery is used to make the family feel pity and responsibilty for her. The type of language he uses is very starightforward and the inspector gets to his point very quickly making the Birling family have no time to make up…
