Analysis of the Anti-War Movement

The movement had 4 stages:

  • First stage (1964-65)
  • Second Stage (1965-68)
  • Third Stage (1968-71)
  • Fourth Stage (1971-73)

First.

  • This had the Yale anti-war march on washington and the teach ins.
  • Due to the expansion of the war in 1965, they decided to aim to educate on the war and give activists enough knowledge which would in turn normaliza opposition, so their objective was awareness (especially due to the pro war energy)
  • In light of this, they were successful:
    • holding over 120 teach ins (mainly led by the sds) at berkeley with about 20,000 participants
    • the anti war protest in 1965 which was the largest one in history
    • however, war only escalated.
