WHAT IS A MIRACLE?
There is no one definition of what a miracle is, though many definitions have been suggested. However, the two main ways of defining a miracle are:
--> An INTERVENTIONIST definition: the breaking of a law of nature by an interventionist God (one who acts in the world; the opposite of the deist view which sees God as completely separate from His creation)
- e.g. Jesus walking on water
--> A CONTINGENT definition: an event that has religious significance, but that doesn't necessarily involve the direct action of God or the breaking of a law of nature.
- e.g. an everyday event such as the birth of a baby
