1. A stimulus, whether it be external or internal, will cause sodium voltage-gated channels to open.

2. Sodium ions will diffuse into the neurone, causing the inside to become more positive.

3. This will then cause more sodium voltage-gated channels to open & more sodium ions to diffuse in. This process is called postive feedback.
