One advantage of the AMS system is it gives smaller parties better representation.

Since people get two votes in this system they’re are more likely to vote for a minority party instead of thinking of it as a wasted vote. In the 2016 Scottish election, the Green party gained no seats via the constituency voting, but gained all of their 6 seats via proportional representation.
