the afterlife

christians have clear beliefs about what happens once a person has died, theyre known as eschalogical beliefs.

there are 3 clear stages,

stage 1- a judgement

stage 2- heaven or hell

stage 3- resurrection

The soul

the soul is the spiritual aspect of a being, which connects someone to god, its often regarded as non physical and as living on after death in an afterlife. soul goes to heaven or hell.

heaven and hell

these can be interpreted as literal places whereas other believe it exists in a spiritual dimension.

heaven is a place , in the sky, where there is no human suffering and humans are united with god.

hell interpreted literally is a real place, underground,  for punishment but interpreted liberally represents a state being seperated from god.

some christians might argue gods nature leads them to belive god wouldnt want to create a place of torment or hell because god is omnibenevolent and doesnt want humans to suffer.

eschalogical beliefs

eschatology refers to the belief about the last things, death judement and heaven or hell.

there are a number of references in the new testament concerning these beliefs and the after life and belief in the afterlife is stated in both apostles greed and ncene creed. christians believe this life is a preperation for the afterlife to be with god in heave. the nicene creed ends with

' i look for the ressurection of the dead, and the life of the world to come'

this explains why the story of jesus cruxifiction and resurrection are so important as it provides christiand with evidence that death isnt the end and although physical bodies die the immortal soul lives on. the cross symbolizes both death and resurrection.

in the gospel of john, the last gospel to be written it says jesus raises a man from the dead called
