Addition, Substitution and Elimination Reactions

?

There are different ways in which Organic molecules can react. These are classified into different groups:

  • Addition Reactions
  • Substitution Reactions
  • Elimination Reactions

Addition Reactions

In an addition reaction, two reactants join together to form one product. Hence they are simply 'adding' together

An example of an Addition Reaction:

  • The reaction of Ethene and Water
  • This is am addition reaction because the Ethene and Water join to form a single molecule, which is the product, Ethanol
