The Effects and Benefits of Exercise to the Body
The Skeletal System
Adaptations
- Increased ability to withstand force - less likely to suffer injuries during sport, improved performance
- Increased bone density - increased strength of bones, less chance of injury and conditions such as osteoporosis
- Stronger tendonds and ligaments - better support and stability of joints, reduced risk of injury
The Muscular System
Aerobic Adaptations
- Hypertrophy of slow twitch muscle fibres - increased muscular endurance
- Increased myoglobin content - better oxygen supply to muscles, more efficient areobic respiration
- Increased size and number of mitochondria - more energy produced aerobically, reduced build up of lactic acid
Anaerobic Adaptations
- Hypertrophy of fast twitch muscle fibres - increased strength and power
- Increased strength - more force…
