What is active transport? the process of substances moving against a concentration gradient, which requires energy

Root hair cells & active transport:

Concentration of minerals usually higher in root hair cell than in soil surrounding it. Therefore diffusion won't work. Active transport allows plant to absorb minerals against concentration gradient, which is vital for growth. Active transport requires energy from respiration to work.
