1. The VS Na+ channel is shut.
2. 3Na+ are actively pumped out of the axon.
3. 2K+ions are actively pumped into the axon, making it negative.
4. K+ions diffuse out through the, always open, K+channel.
5. Anions make the axon more negative.
6. The axon is polarised because the inside is more negative than the outside.
