Let’s start off with the key definition for bases..
- A base is a species that is proton acceptor (basically the opposite of an acid)
- They produce a pH of greater than 7 in solution with water.. they’re BASIC
Common bases include metal oxides and metal hydroxides;
(you should learn these off by heart if you don’t know any already)
Metal oxides; MgO (magnesium oxide), CuO (copper oxide)
Metal hydroxides; NaOH (sodium hydroxide), Mg(OH2) (magnesium hydroxide)
