Dedrochronology:

The study of tree rings contrasted to seasonal and climatic variations.

  • Dry = narrower
  • Wet = wider
  • Europe = Oak
  • Dates when the timber was felled or the tree died

+ Must have over 50 rings, has to have the sapwood present, dates trees up to 11,000 years old, is the most reliable of the methods and useful for backing up radiocarbon dating

- Some regions have poor sequences, differential survival of wood, some carpenters dispose of the sapwood, only provides an 'estimate'.
