Sequecing  the genome of an organism 

  • genomes are mapped to find out which part of the genome they are form this can be done using microsatellites 
  • samples of the genome are mechanically broken up into smaller section up to 100 000 base pairs
  • these sections are placed in separate bacterial artificial chromosomes and then transported to e coil
  • cells are grown in culture and many clones of the section are produced 
  • cells are then known as clone libraries

comparisons

  • identification of the genes that codes for proteins can be compared 
  • mutant alleles that cause disease can
