(a) write displayed, shortened and skeletal structural formulae of simple alkanes, alkenes, halogenoalkanes, primary alcohols and carboxylic acids given their systematic names and vice-versa  

Alkenes 

Like alkanes, we look at the molecule given for the longest straight-chain carbon chain. Once again, we use the prefixes of meth, eth, prop, but, pent and then all logical prefixes (hex, hept, oct, non, dec etc)

However, this time, doubles bonds are involved in the naming process. Rather than just looking for the longest chain, we look for the longest chain starting from the side where the double bond is closest to the
