What are lipids?

• macromolecules
• all contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
• triglycerides, phospholipids and cholesterol

Triglycerides

• one molecule of glycerol with 3 (TRI-) fatty acids attacheted to it
• synthesised by the formation of ester bonds 

Ester Bonds

• 1 triglyceride has 3 ester bonds, one inbetween each fatty acid.
• formed in a condensation reaction (water molecule is released)
