2.3.2- Polynucleotides and DNA

?

Polynucleotide structure:

  • nucleotides join together to make polynucleotides
  • the nucleotides join at the phosphte group of one nucleotide and the sugar of another
  • they form in a condensation reaction
  • this forms a phosphodiester bond.
  • this chain of sugars and phosphates is a sugar-phosphate backbone
  • they can be broken down into nucleotides in a hydrolysis reaction

DNA structure:

  • 2 polynucleotide strands joined to form a double-helix shape
  • the two strands join by hydrogen bonds between the bases
  • a A and T join together by 2 hydrogen bonds
  • a C and a G join together by 3 hydrogen…
