BAD INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
- most strikes were unoffical= worse damage - 90% unofficial
- Left Benn- lack of education & industry, bosses weren't encouraged to spend on effiecient machinery
- Tory Lawson- irresponsible trade unions as there were too many to negotiate with
- work to rule
- demarcation disputes
1967 OIL CRISIS AND DEVALUATION
- caused run on the £
- UK entirely dependent on oil
- higher prices of oil & petrol = inflation
- £ bought 14% less
- imports caused increased prices in shops
- didn't devaluate in stable times so can't blame Tories for it
- Wilson lied saying that devaluation will not affect the £ in ur pocket
- Dock strike in 1967- left wing says should be allowed to, right wing says there is a moral and immoral time to do it
LABOUR SPLIT ON DEVALUATION
- buying bk had worked
- Brown said need to devaluate because it wil happen again
- Wilson & Cllagnhan said cut expenditure instead
- causes splits
