What forms a Protein?

  • Monomers of proteins are amino acids.
  • Dipeptide is formed when two amino acids join.
  • Polypeptide forms when more than two amino acids join.
  • Proteins are made of one or more polypeptides.

Amino Acid Strucutre

  • All amino acids conntain the same carboxyl group (-COOH), an amine group (-NH2) & a carbon containing R-group (variable group).
  • Except glycine that has only a hydrogen atom in it's R-group.

  • All organisms share the same bank of 20 diffferent amino acids.
  • The only difference between each amino acid is the R-group.

Dipeptide & Polypeptide Formation

  • Amino acids linked by condensation reactions, a water molecule
