1.1.4 Creation and the Nature of Humanity

?

Genesis teaches that God created people in his image. This does not mean that humans look like God, but that they have free will, reason and conscience.

They are capable of intelligence, self knowledge and have freedom to choose between good and evil.

This teaching reminds Catholics:

  • Each human being is special, unique and sacred in God's sight
  • Human are more than animals and are not to be used as objects
  • Humans have fundamental human rights such as freedom of expression, right to food, shelter and health care

5 ways we reflect God:

  • Rational - Humans are intelligent and can use intelligence in the world to find their way to God
  • Freewill and Conscience…
