Different models was accepted in the past due to the evidence being available at the time.

19th century, John Dalton described the atom as soild spheres, these soild spheres made up different elements. 

1897 J.J Thomson, He discovered the electron, which disproved John Dalton idea as it showed atoms wasnt soild and indivisible. J.J Thomson came up with the 'plum pudding model'. 

1909 Ernest Rutherford and his students did an experiment called the gold foil experiment, they fired positively charged alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold, if the plum pudding model…
