• a little while, a short time

画一会儿画儿 - to draw for a little while

(verb-yí huìr-noun)

Example:

看一会儿电影 (kàn yí huìr diàn yǐng)

to watch movies for a little while

看 完 电 影 以 后... (wán kàn diàn yǐng yǐ hòu)

After finishing the movie..

verb-wán-object/noun-yǐ hòu

Example:

他 每天 做 完 作业 以后看 电视. (Tā měitiān zuò wán zuòyè yǐhòu kàn diànshì)

Everyday, after he finshes homework, he watches TV.

first object/verb, second verb/object,  ...xǐhuan...

Example: 

看电视, 看电影, 我都喜欢 (Kàn diànshì, kàn diànyǐng, wǒ doū xǐhuan)

I like watching both movies and TV.

• 分钟 (fēn zhōng) 

minute 

• 三刻钟 (sān kè zhōng)

forty-five minutes (kè=15 minutes)

• 半 个小时 (bàn ge xiǎo shí)

half an hour (xiǎo shí= an hour)

• 天 (tiān)

day

• 年 (nián)

year

• 星期 (xīng qī)

Week

Day & Week follow this format: number-个-minutes(30min, 15min)-time

Year follows this format: number-年-months/half

• 他做作业做了两个小时。(tā zuó zuó yè zuó le liǎng gè xiǎoshí)

He did his homework for 2 hours. (pronoun-verb-object-repeat of verb-time)

• 他没天做三个小时的作业。(tā méi tiān zuò sān gè xiǎoshí de zuòyè)

Everyday, he does his homework for 3 hours.(pronoun-everyday-verb-time frame-de-object)

跟。。 。 一起  (gēn... yì qǐ)

(together) with...

• 我没天跟小明一起打网球. (Wǒ méi tiān gēn xiǎomíng yīqǐ dǎ wǎngqiú)

Everyday, I play tennis with Xiao Ming. (pronoun-when-gēn-person-yīqǐ-verb and subject)

• 除 了。。以外, chú le... yǐ wài

besides; except

• 除 了打球以外， 他喜欢音乐。(Chúle dǎqiú yǐwài, tā xǐhuan yīnyuè.)

Besides ball games, he likes music. (chú le-subject/object-yǐ wài-pronoun-verb-object/subject)

• 一边。。。一边 (yì biān... yì biān)

two actions happening at the same time 

• 他 喜欢一边看电视一边吃饭。(Tā xǐhuan yībiān kàn diànshì yìbiān chīfàn.)

He likes to eat while watching TV. (pronoun-like-yì biān-verb and object-yìbiān-verb and object)

• 正在 (zhèng zài)

In the process of

• 他正在学钢琴. (Tā zhèngzài xué gāngqín)

He is learning to play the piano. (pronoun-zhèng zài-verb-object)
