Response to Global Poverty

A samll percentage of the UK's national income is given to LEDC's, To reduce poverty in disasters large sums are given for immediate relief. Must of the response comes from charities.

There are two types of aid

  • Emergency aid -given to help in a crisis
  • Long term aid - Funding that helps self reliance

Christian aid

  • Started as an agency to help refugees in Europe at the end of the 2nd world war
  • Committed to seeing a just worldnow, not just in the future
  • Believes in life before death
  • Works on development projects with partner organisations in countries all over the worl
  • Involved in emergency and long Term aid
  • Works with UK agencies
  • Founder member of the Fair Trade movement
  • Involved in many campaigns to get rid of debt
  • Annual christian aid week - envelopes put through as many UK letterboxes as possible and then collected by volunteers
