The Origin of the Universe

The Church endeavours to be in tune with the time; the social problems, intellect and current influences. For Catholics the origins of the universe begins with God. God is the creator. This statement is supported in the Catholic Creed: ‘the creator of the heavens and the earth, of all that is seen and unseen’.

This belief is also supported by Scripture and comes from the two Genesis accounts. God is the only being omnipotent enough to have created the universe. Thus the origins begin with God. This power comes from the Holy Trinity; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit all present and participating in the creation of the Universe.

Catholics believe that the origins of the universe is a beautiful mystery; we are not meant to fully understand. For God is beyond us, and his omniscience, omnibenevolence and omnipresence transcends all. ‘As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be- a world without end’
