Constructive waves: Constructive waves are smalller in height and have less energy. But they have weak backwash which means little erosion. Constructive waves have a strong swash which pushes the material up the beach.
Destructive waves are bigger in height and have more energy. They have a strong backwash which scours the beach, pulling the sand and shingle down. But they have weak swash which means little beach pulling.
