WW2 - 1939- 1941 and the war 1941-1943

1939- 1941- Winning

  • rationing from sept 1939 when the war broke out - vegetarians and pregnant women got more rations and the ill 
  • the diet of 2/5 germans improved
  • Clothes ration in Nov 1939
  • bread was sold a day after it had been made making it chewy so people ate less food 
  • Hot water twice a week

1941- 1943- started to go badly

  • people started trading tobacco as it was so hard to find 
  • propaganda was increased as the tides turned for germany
  • told to work hard and save fuel
  • Invaded the USSR ( modern day russian area)in 1941 which resulted in a high loss of life

  • got everyone working together for the war effort- which resulted in lots of 'non essential' businesses being closed
  • people exchanged things form sofas to clothes at centres
  • the film kolberg was produced by the nazis
  • Air raids started to get more frequent and this devistated germany and resulted in a high loss of life
  • labour shortages becuase of the men being at war - in 1937 they tried to get women back to work

1944- 1945- the final fight

  • the allies start winning and pushing the Germans back towards Germany
  • evn more air raids 
  •  May 1945Hitler and other leading Nazis commit suicide as well as Hitlers Girlfriend and his dog ( the dog was shot )
