The harder the task, the greater the confomity. This is because we are more likely to follow others' answers when we are uncertain. Asch altered comparison lines to look more similar and conformity increased.

Unanimity
A person is more likely to conform when all members of the groups are in agreement and give the same answer.
Asch found up to an 80% decrease in conformity when one confederate gave a different answer to the rest of the group.

Group size
People are more likely to conform when in a larger group
Asch found optimum group size was 4, conformity wasn't affected after that.
