Uses for Neutralisation

?

Uses for Neutralisation

1. Heart burn: antacid (magnesium oxide) + hydrocloric acid = salt + water

2. Bee/wasp stings: baking soda (alkali) for bees and vinegar (acid) for wasps

3. Acidic soil:plants do not grow in acidic soil so farmers add slaked lime (alkali)

4. Fertilliser:plants need nitrogen to grow and farmers add nitric acid to the soil so it can be neutralised into ammonium nitratate

General Equation for Neutralisation

Acid + alkali = salt + water

e.g. sulphuric acid + copper oxide = copper sulphate (blue) + water
