Case Study: China - Sustainable Living

China has suffered massive urban growth over the last 10-15 years.

People have migrated from rural areas to urban areas to seek new jobs, better facilities, and a new start.

But this rapid growth has caused terrible pollution levels, and China now has some of the most polluted cities on Earth.

Now it aims to have urban areas that are sustainable (in terms of the environment), and are able to withstand the heavy flow of migrants.

Eco-cities have been planned, and hope to reduce many of these problems.

The first eco-city they will develop is Dongtan, near Chongming.

It is being built with care, and the environment is the first priority at all costs.
