Urban Environment - BEDZED's Renewable Energy Sources

How does BEDZED get its energy in an eco-friendly, renewable way?

?

BEDZED's Renewable Energy Sources

BEDZED (Beddington Zero Energy Development) is a carbon-neutral eco-community.

It gets its energy and resources like so;

  • buildings face south to get maximum benefit from sunlight
  • double glazing and high levels of insulation reduce heat loss
  • the timber it was built with came from sustainable forests
  • small power plant (fuelled by tree waste) is used to provide hot water
  • solar power provides electricity
  • all heat used is recycled
  • buildings have low energy appliances
  • rainwater store
  • wind driven ventilation
