Unit 8: transformations and constructions

?

Transformations

Enlargement:
-find the vector from the centre to vertex.
-x by scale factor
-draw new vertex from centre.
1) scale factor
2) centre of enlargement

Rotations:
1)angle
2)direction
3)centre of rotation

Translation:
movement of a shape
Left(-)= (X) sideways-+
Down(-)=. (Y). Up(+) + down(-)

Reflection:
X=a. Goes through x axis at a. Y=a. Goes through y axis at a.
equidistant from mirror line.

3D shapes

Elevations.
=side + front
Plan = top view
Put all 2D elevations together to draw a 3D shape.

Drawing 3D shapes.

1) draw front face

2) draw depth lines

3) join up depth lines

Constructions.

Perpendicular bisector:
-Put a compass at 2/3 distance
-Draw arcs above and below line.

Angle bisector:
-Draw an arc on each line
-From these crosses, draw arcs in the middle.

Side side side:
-Draw 1st side
-Use compass length so arcs cross.
-Join up triangle

Side angle side:
Angle side angle
Right angle hypotenuse side (RHS)
Can all be drawn with a protractor and a ruler.

Loci

Can be:

-Between two lines

-Between two points= perpendicular bisector.
