Magna Carta

- Reduced corruption

- Controlled the power of Kings

- Equalising the law for everyone

- Written in 1215

1832 Great Reform Act

- Gave small landowners the ability to vote for the first time

- Abolish rotten boroughs

- Created 67 new constituencies

- Reduced 31 boroughs to only one MP, disenfranchised 56 boroughs in England and Wales

1918 Representation of the People Act

Gave the vote to:

- Women over 30 who owned property, or who had a husband who owned property.

- All men over the age of 21

1928 Representation of the People Act

Voting age lowered to 21 for both men and women

1969 Representation of the People Act

Lowered voting age to 18 for all

1998 Human Rights Act

First time Human Rights had been legislated
