Understanding Bidmas/Bodmas

What it stands for.          Brackets    Index (other)     Division    Mutiply    Addition    Subtraction Example Question.

16-12/4

- As you can see here the subtraction comes before division, but if you refer back to bidmas divition comes before subtraction.

12/4=3

here we simply just do the 12 divided by 4 (ignoring the 16 for now) and get the answer. This is what we have so far.

16-12/4

12/4=3

16-3=13

Here we have simply taken the 16 and subtracted the answer we got which is 3 and subtracted it from 16.                           The answer to this question is 13.
