Many lowland areas tend to be

  • East

Most cities are in lowland areas and often on the UK's main rivers such as

  • London (on the Thames)
  • Liverpool (on the Mersey)
  • Cardiff (on the Severn Estuary)

  • Home to Ben Nevis (highest mountain in the UK)
  • Steep
  • Rocky
  • Sparsely populated

The Fens

  • Flat
  • Low-lying
  • Marshy
  • Used to be larger but much has been drained for farming
