Located on the Yangtze River, China

Used to generate HEP for central and eastern China, including Shanghai - population of over 13 million people
Will also reduce flood risk for 15 million people and improve navigation
Reservoir - 660km long and 1km wide - created behind the dam
The dam is 2.3km long and over 100m high
Cost around £25 billion to build
Forced resettlement of 1.2 million people, many culutral monuments lost, and will have negative environmental and ecological effects, including an increased likelihood of landslides and loss of habitats, i.e the white flag dolphin
