Dramatic monologue split into three parts. Mixture of rhyme and prose.
It tells you abut the journey down a river but giving it a character. Uses river like words such as 'smooth, deep, waving'
Uses metaphors which create an image of river features e.g. ' so i brought her down here' - a waterfall? 'As i throw them up now and then in the spirit of clowning' - some rapids?
Its describing a man that like a river, has a calm appearance that hides deep and dangorous undercurrents. About the river falling in love with a woman and stealing her life so she cannot ever leave him. The last line shows the unforgiveness that a river would feel. The river seems to claim the woman as his own.
