• pictures- look at 2 pictures from different times and compare (size+position) the retreat of glacier
• monitoring data- length of glacier since certain time on graph e.g. 1879 to now
• amount of meltwater- as G retreats, more meltwater, lake in front of G, increases size,melting more rapidly

Causes 

• global warming, inc average global temp of 0.9 oC last 150 yrs
• global warming, at Rhone glacier, weatherstation recorded inc 1.8oC, 1937-2005, no coatsline switzerland= no cooling effect
