The gunpowder plot.

The gunpowder plot was a plot by the Catholics in order to kill the protestant king, king James I.

Guy Fawkes's confession was the only evidence that the plot even existed.

Builders who excavated the area in 1823 found no trace of a tunnel or any evidence that a tunnel had even been dug.

No one other than the king's main advisor, cecil's men saw the barrels of gunpowder.

The government kept records of the sale of gunpowder and would have wondered why so many barrels were needed.

Some people say that Cecil was very happy when Guy fawkes was arrested at that he plotted the whole thing in order to frame the Catholics
