Eight Guidelines For A Healthy Diet

  • Base meals on starchy foods
  • Eat lots of fruit and veg
  • Eat more fish
  • Cut down on saturated fat and sugar
  • Try to eat less salt
  • Get active and try to be a healthy weight
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Don't skip breakfast

Provides carbohydrates, some calcium and iron, vitamin B and fibre

Help you grow and stay healthy

Eat meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, tofu, beans and pulses

Provides iron, protein, B vitamins, zinc and magnesium

Milk and Dairy (Food Group)

Helps bones and teeth grow/stay strong and healthy

Try lower fat alternatives

Provides calcium, protein, B vitamins, vitamins A+D

Fat/Sugar (Food Group)

Don't eat too many foods that contain a lot of fat

Don't have sugary foods and drinks too often
