The houses of commons compostion is decribed iubn the same way for the basis of the membership; All members of parliaments win their seats in the same way.

key features:

  • 650 MPs
  • MPs are elcted by the single-parliamnetary voting system using the FPTP system.
  • Mps are categorized in two different benched. Back benchers and Frontbencher
  • Those who sit at the back bench usally hold no minsterial powers or 'shadow' and usally sit at the back.
  • those who sit at the front bench hold minsterial power or 'shadow'.

Powers

the houses of commons is politically and legally the dominant chamber of parliament.

keys powers of the commons:

  • the commons has legislative power. They can make, umake and amend any laws they want.- the lords can only delay this as long as possible.
  • The soverienty of parliament is exercised in the commons. 
  • the commons can remove the government of the day. this power is based on the collective ministerial responsbility. A goverment who is defeated in the commons on a major or matter of confidence in the Commons are forced to resign or call a general election.
