Mara is a God of temptaion who tries to tempt Gautama by distrupting him from his cycle of birth, death and re-birth.
Mara is described to be like the innerconscience.
Mara sent an army to attack the Buddha (arrows are fired but turn into lotus flowers before reaching the Buddha).

4 Jhanas
1st Jhana: Unbroken attention to the object of meditation, a kind of detachment and calm thinking, experiencing the feelings of joy and rapture but is only one removed from everyday consciousness.
2nd Jhana: Is more detached and chatter of the mind fades away leaving joy.
3rd Jhana: Reaches a purer joy, single minded focus.
4th Jhana: Joy fades away leaving a mind peaceful, clear....

The 3 watches
1st watch:
Siddhatta obsevered all of his previous lives in detail as he's unlocked his mind.
2nd watch:
He observed the comin g into being and the death of all other beings in accordance with their good or bad Karma.
3rd watch:
He attained the knowledge of the four noble truths (finds a cure to allow people to not suffer)

The significance that the 3 watches have for under
1st watch:
The process where Siddhatta went over his previous life in detail to unlock his mind. This shows that people should reflect on their life in a peaceful way and not to be upset of live in regret and not to look for the bad in situations.
Also when reaching enlightenment people can reflect on their life and understand why certain things happen for a reason.
2nd watch:
This is a way to show that they have no-soul as he observed the coming into being and the death of other beings in accordance.
Showing that afger death as their is no-soul Buddhists wont feel pain or suffering (Dukkha).
3rd watch:
Attainment of the four noble truths which help to find a way for people to not suffer, this is significant as it is a way in which they can reduce temptation and to fight against their own demons (e.g: Mara).
