Allows for rotation at the neck

Pivot joint

Allows as full range of movement as possible. e.g the hip

Ball and socket joint

Allows movement in two directions. e.g base of thumb

Saddle joint

allows movement forwards, backwards and sideways, but not rotation. e.g the wrist
