Monosaccharides

Monosaccharides - single molecules of sugar.

Glucose - also known as Dextrose.  Found in fruit and vegetables and used in confectionary as Glucose syrup.

Fructose - occurs naturally in fruit, vegetables and honey.

Galactose - part of Lactose.

Disaccharides

Disaccharides - two linked sugar molecules that are broken down into monosaccharides by digestion.

Sucrose = Glucose + Fructose

Lactose = Glucose + Galactose

Maltose = Glucose + Glucose
