•Issue leaflets, internet sites etc that might be a source of reference.
•Refer on to other professionals.
•Give the patient responsibilities and targets.
•Monitor patient progress.
•Ask the patient what support they need.

What steps can a patient take in order to take responsibility for their health?
•React quickly to symptoms
•Self – help/medicate where possible.
•Follow any advice given.
•Use prescription medication properly.
•Don’t exaggerate or minimise symptoms.
•Know any allergies
•Use sources of advice given.
•Return aids and appliances.
