Compare and order fractions and decimals

When comparing and ordering fractions, decimals,  write the numbers as all fractions, or all decimals,. To order numbers from least to greatest, write them as they appear on a number line from left to right.Step 1: Write down the decimal divided by 1, like this: decimal 1. Step 2: Multiply both top and bottom by 10 for every number after the decimal point. (For example, if there are two numbers after the decimal point, then use 100, if there are three then use 1000, etc.) Step 3: Simplify (or reduce) the fraction.

Change mixed numbers to improper fractions and vic

To put this another way: to turn a mixed number into a fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator (the bottom part), and add the result to the numerator (the top part). Add the result to the numerator: The numerator is 1. The numerator is 5.

Add and Subtract fractions

Before you can add or subtract fractions with different denominators, you must first find equivalent fractions with the same denominator, like this:

  1. Find the smallest multiple (LCM) of both numbers.
  2. Rewrite the fractions as equivalent fractions with the LCM as the denomina
