Specific features of a spreadsheet

Labels: used for titles, headings, names and for identifying columns or rows of data

Data: values (text or number) that you enter into a spreadsheet, the data that would be used for calculations or for producing graphs and charts

Formatting cells

Printing formulae

Layout of worksheets

Cell gridlines: feint lines used to mark the cells. They can be removed by:

  • Tools menu, Options, View tab, Gridlines to remove the tick, OK

Linked sheets: called a 3D reference

Automatic recalculation

Sorting rows/columns: ascending order or descending order

Graphs and charts:

  • easier to interpret results
  • line, bar, pie, scatter graphs
  • remember to include a title for the graph that explains its purpose clearly, label each axis, add a legend, use appropriate colours and shading when producing a graph
