red blood cells

red blood cells (http://www.bbc.co.uk/staticarchive/114146dba596f981d2902ef0df5dbcf2d8484df9.gif)

  • contains haemoglobin to carry oxygen round to cells

  • thin outer membrane allows oxygen to diffuse easily
  • no nucleus so whole cell is full of haemoglobin
  • large surface area to allow efficient oxygen absorbtion

  • absorbs light energy for photosynthesis

  • packed with chlorophyll
  • regular shaped
  • tightly packed to absorb light efficiently

  • penetrates female egg cell

  • sharp head with enzyme and genetic material to penetrate egg cell membrane
  • middle section contains mitochondria to provide energy
  • tail moves to propel cell forwards
