Nouns

Nouns are words that name things. 

Common nouns are words from everyday things e.g. pizza, boy, girl, cat, ocean and mountain. 

Proper Nouns are names for particular people, place or thing and always have a CAPITAL letter at the beginning of the word. e.g. London, Oscar, Buddy, Tuesday, May, America

Adjectives

Adjectives are words that tell us more about the noun. An adjective is always a describing word, because it describes a noun! 

For example: 

The hungry bear 

The silly penguin

The funny man

The orange carrot

Verbs

Verbs are doing or being words. 

They play video games. 

We travel by car 

I am fine. 

Other verbs are, eat, talk, write, run, sit, stand, crawl, dance, appear, shout, be.

Articles

Articles are the words 'a', 'an' and 'the'.

Adverbs

Adverbs are words that describe verbs. 

They often end with 'ly'. 

The dog playfully licked my nose.

The childred greedily ate the chocolate. 

Also, they can tell you how, when and often the verb was done. 

He played quietly. 

I never eat peas. 

The shop is sometimes open at midnight.

Oscar carefully picked his nose!

Vowels and Consonants

There are 26 letters in the alphabet

5 are vowels, A, E, I, O, U.

We can remeber these by saying, 'Angry Elephants In Orange Underpants'. 

All of the other 21 letters are consonants. 

B,C,D,F,G,H,J,K,L,M,N,P,Q,R,S,T,V,W,X,Y,Z.

21 consonants and 5 vowels = 26 letters of the alphabet!
