Parsons: Instrumental and Expressive Roles
Normal nuclear family; roles between wife/husband are segregated
Talcott Parsons- Functionalist view upon spouses (due to biologically differences)
Women naturally suited to the nurturing role and men are the providers.
- Instrumental; (husband) The breadwinner, achieving success at work to finacially support the family
- Expressive; (wife) Home maker, primary socialisation towards kids so meets emotional needs
