The process of studying people and how they behave is knows as research. The big issues they study may include: inequality, racism and sexism. Culture is the way of life of a group of people Cultural diversity is the fact that different groups of people may have different ways of living Cultural relativity is the idea that what is normal to one culture may be strange to another Cultural universal is the idea that some social behaviours can be found in all cultures 2 of 4 What is social control? Formal Sanction this is a punishment thats official (serious) Informal Sanction this is a punshiment thats unofficial (not that serious) 3 of 4 What is socialisation? The process of learning the expected behaviour for your culture is socialisation. Primary socialisation takes place in the home and by the family Secondary socialisation takes place out of the home, in the wider society. Accidental socialisation is known as informal socialisation The deliberate attempt to change a person to fit into a new situation is known as formal socialisation 4 of 4
