?

The three types of Capital

Cultural Capital

Bourdieu argues that middle class students outperform working class students as they have more Cultural Capital which equips them for educational success.

Educational Capital

Feinstein supported this and found that educated parents pass on their values through the following socialisation techniques in Educational Capital.

  • Parenting Style- discipline and expectations.
  • Parental Education Behaviour- an awareness on how to assist their child to help them improve. i.e through reading books, taking them to museums which surround the basis of their education
  • Income- middle class are more likely to buy educational toys and books to develop their learning

Economic Capital

Bourdieu claims that economic capital ensures the M/C can buy educational success. this could be by sending their kids to private schools or move to catchment areas with better facilities.
